On the other hand, single-stage compressors compress air in a single stroke, ideal for applications requiring pressures up to 100 psi, like tire inflation. In contrast, multi-stage compressors use two or more cylinders to compress air in stages, enabling much higher pressures, up to 5,000 psi, needed for gas pipelines and high-pressure testing.
Moreover, diaphragm compressors use flexible diaphragms instead of pistons, making them ideal for handling toxic or explosive gases in chemical and pharmaceutical industries, thereby preventing gas contamination.
